holga focus trick
NIKON D200
sec
f 2.8
44 mm
this is how i figured out that the holga can get a really sharp image at distances closer than 3 feet. (example)
that is wax paper stretched across the focus plane.
to see how to modify your holga to do close focus as well as other holga mods, visit my holga hack page...

  • Hello,
thanks for sharing your trick, I'll certainly try this one out! I like your Holga portraits a lot. THis picture is very beautiful too.

  • You legend-just saved myself a film. I was going to measure out pegs and waste a film finding my range..bring on the baking paper. And then, brute force for close ups...excellence!

  • By the way, maybe it's time for a twin lens holga...tape two together, top one with wax paper and film underneath. You'd just need to calibrate the two lens with a few notches and bob's ya uncle!

  • This is very cool. A few questions, if you can humor a newbie:
When you force the lens like this, does it break it?
Why is there a plastic stop in the lens?
When you get to the end of the thread, does it stop turning, or does the lens fall off?
Does extra light leak if you go too far (too much extra?
    thanks for your patience

  • you can remove the screw from inside the holga with a very small screwdriver instead of using the "force method." the screw is there to stop the lens from falling off if you unscrew it too far which is exactly what we want. i basically remove the lens and then just hold it against the barrel for close focus.
there does not appear to be any extra light problems this way.
